Eddie Howe attempted to defend the 'intent' of Anthony Gordon after the Newcastle winger was sent off for violent conduct in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat by Brighton - and he even hinted at an appeal. The straight red card means the England winger will now miss the Carabao Cup final with Liverpool in a fortnight's time, as well as key Premier League games against West Ham and Brentford.
