ANDY MURRAY has confirmed he can be out for an "extended period" after rupturing two ankle ligaments throughout Sunday's loss on the Miami Open.

He confirmed the damning news in an Instagram submit on Monday evening, revealing he has a full rupture of his anterior talofibular ligament and a near-full rupture of his calcaneofibular ligament.
Speaking on Instagram, he stated: "Yesterday in the direction of the top of my match in Miami I suffered a full rupture of my ATFL and near full thickness rupture of my CFL.
"I'll see an ankle specialist once I return house to find out subsequent steps.
"Goes with out saying this can be a robust one to take and I'll be out for an extended period.
