ANDY MURRAY has confirmed he can be out for an "extended period" after rupturing two ankle ligaments throughout Sunday's loss on the Miami Open.
The three-time Grand Slam champion, 36, who beforehand revealed he is "unlikely" to play past the summer time, now faces a race to be fit for what is predicted to be his ultimate Wimbledon.
He confirmed the damning news in an Instagram submit on Monday evening, revealing he has a full rupture of his anterior talofibular ligament and a near-full rupture of his calcaneofibular ligament.
Speaking on Instagram, he stated: "Yesterday in the direction of the top of my match in Miami I suffered a full rupture of my ATFL and near full thickness rupture of my CFL.
"I'll see an ankle specialist once I return house to find out subsequent steps.
"Goes with out saying this can be a robust one to take and I'll be out for an extended period.
"However I'll be again with 1 hip and no ankle ligaments when the time is true
