Others have been charged for accommodation and transport in Geneva after the flight from Birmingham was axed on Wednesday evening.

Kristin Beattie, 57, from Loughborough, stated: "I was getting picked up in Geneva by somebody who's driven from Orelle, so I've needed to ebook him a lodge in Geneva.

"I used to be solely staying until Sunday so an entire day of our holiday has gone.

"It was past 9pm and the knowledge board still stated 'We'll replace you at eight 30pm'.

"Sitting on the aircraft they have been very fast at telling you what's happening and the way we were not going anyplace, and at quarter previous ten we have been still caught on the check-in desks at departures.

"We've been sitting right here like mugs.

"I needed to only e-book a lodge, which I might have carried out hours ago, however they could never pay you back."

The flight finally took off at 9.20am the following morning.

EasyJet stated it had offered lodges and coaches and "security is our highest priority".
